DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers help to diminish facial lines and restore volume and fullness in the face.  As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat.

The facial muscles are then working closer to the skin surface, so smile lines and crow's feet become more apparent.  The facial skin also stretches a bit, adding to this loss of facial volume. Other factors that affect the facial skin include sun exposure, heredity and lifestyle.

Fillers are not permanent.

For some patients, surgery such as a facelift, brow lift or eye lift may be the best approach. Minimally invasive rejuvenation treatments, such as soft tissue fillers, cannot achieve the same results, but may help delay the time when consideration of a facelift becomes appropriate. It is important to remember that dermal fillers are temporary treatments for facial aging and that ongoing treatments will be needed for long-term results.

WHAT ARE FILLERS?

Most facial fillers used in the UK and here at Royal Rejuvenation are entirely, or at least predominantly, made from the humectant, hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar which occurs naturally in the body, with the largest concentrations located in the eyes, joints and skin. It’s a cushiony lubricant known for its ability to attract water, making it great for hydrating and volumising the skin.   Our bodies constantly make then break down hyaluronic acid but as we age it becomes a case of more breaking than making! That’s why replacing it from synthetic sources makes such logical sense. It also explains why the effects of HA fillers are temporary.

Fillers are not permanent and typically last between 6 & 18 months. There are many factors which can affect the longevity of dermal fillers. Besides the type of filler product that's used, several other factors can influence dermal filler longevity. This includes:

  • Where the filler is used on your face
  •  How much is injected
  • The speed at which your body metabolizes the filler material.
